But they won’t and they will continue their bullshit as long as the gacha whales keep throwing money at them. 🤪
Because I saw from previews that we would be able to play the entire FF7 story, I decided to give FF7 Ever Crisis a shot. I only played FF7R which is just a part of the story and while waiting for FF7 Rebirth I figured this would be a nice way to kill time. Well it was….for about 2 days. On day 2 I was just doing some quests and then the game kicked me out. I knew there was a 7 hour maintenance the next day and I sent a support ticket but as usual it went unanswered, so I decided surely a maintenance would fix this issue!
But no, here we are 7 hours later, and this garbage app will not let me login. Apparently the only solution is to uninstall and reinstall the app. But oh wait, this is a primitive Japanese gacha game aka it doesn’t back up your data. You have to manually back up the data! Okay, I am familiar with this, I have done it before on other apps. Oh wait, you cannot back up your data unless you are LOGGED INTO THE GAME. Other Japanese apps I’ve played allowed you to make a backup code on the login screen but this one? Nah, you should have thought about doing that while you were still logged into the game. Now? Well you’re screwed. GGWP. Apparently many people have not realized this, and also uninstalled the game, and lost not only their data but they also lost MONEY they spent on the game because they lost their whole account! And of course Square Enix gives no fucks lmao. 🤪
So this is where my short adventure ends but I also want to talk about how just generally bad this is. First of all, this game contains The First Soldier, which was SE’s attempt to make an OC FF7 RPG which failed after like a year and shut down. So instead they threw it into this mobile game. If you’ve played Nier Reincarnation, the system is very similar as far as upgrades, gacha, story etc. Even playing free I was able to get a strong enough team (Tifa, Cloud, Aerith) to just get through the story – the entire reason I downloaded the game. However the game forces you to basically also play through Crisis Core (which is basically cut short at the Dumbapples arc – with “more to come later”) and forces you to play through the First Soldier with the rando characters they added in.
Secondly, the game has too many currencies and it becomes overwhelming. They also continuously throw the stupid “buy this limited time cash pack!” after you complete various parts of the story. They are constantly shoving “buy buy buy” banners in your face, a lot more aggressively than even in Nier Reincarnation. The moment you unlock anything new or complete any new dungeon/quest/story you get advertisements in your face to buy more items. It also took me a while to even figure out what the purpose of the blue gemstones was because there were so many currencies.
And thirdly, I went to play this game for the story, but compared to FF7R, they cut out a LOT of things. For example, they cut out the part where Cloud goes to the place to shake his booty before being dressed up like a girl. They cut out the part where they jump through the sewers after Don Corneo dumps them down below. They completely cut out the ghost train stuff. I know FF7R exaggerated on scenes in the story, but after playing FF7R it does feel like a lot of content is just….missing. What took me 30 hours in FF7R was about 2 hours in the mobile version. I understand the constraints of mobile game and the limitations, but it just feels stripped down for the purpose of……….making a quick buck off gacha whales.
And of course not 2 days later, they add a beach event and a beach gacha for Tifa, with apparently HEALING stats, even though she’s a DPS. But who cares about her stats, people just wanna see those melons in a wet tshirt! 🍉🍉And even though people whaled, they became unable to login, and without having prior gacha game knowledge (since this attracted a lot of FF7R fans who may have never played gacha games, let alone Japanese ones, in their life) they uninstalled and lost the accounts they SPENT MONEY IN. And Square Enix? Of course doesn’t care, and their fanboys will just tell you that you should have “known” to back up your data because clearly 2 days after launch the game was surely going to be defective and not let you login. Well damn, this never happened to any other mobile game apps I’ve played, including Nier Reincarnation. I wonder why I didn’t think to do this in FF7EC!? ಠ_ಠ
But this is on par with them. Just like the time where they screwed over many people who preordered FFXIV lore books off their god forsaken online store. As for me, I will give them another 1-2 days to fix this login nonsense, but if they don’t (and I expect them to do nothing) I will just uninstall. Even if I get back to this game, I will never spend a dime on it anyway. It will probably just have the same fate as their winners such as Mobius Final Fantasy or Echos of Mana. The entire experience has left such a bad taste in my mouth I’m on the verge of uninstalling Nier Reincarnation, which I have been playing actively for 2.5 years. However at least in there my account is actually backed up L O L. At this point it’s probably better for me to spend my time getting through my RPG backlog while waiting for FF7: Rebirth instead. ┐(´д`)┌
