So somehow I’ve managed to crawl to my 8th anniversary despite 2016 being a terrible year in most other aspects. 😂 But hey it’s a time for celebration and reflection so let’s look back on the things that happened and as usual, check out my terrible yearly otome game awards!
So as usual let’s look back on some key notes of the past year:
- Lots of Otome games are getting localized! Finally all my non Japanese speaking friends and readers can enjoy the games I’ve
painfully sat throughenjoyed all these years! 😂 Just kidding, I actually plan to get 3 of the games on that list because as it turns out, I actually never played them, and English localizations are usually 1/3 the price of the Japanese ones! May as well! Let’s take a look at what’s coming in 2017: - Memorable Localization Disasters. I’m sure we can all remember the 2 prominent localization goof ups we had this year. The first one, was the Beastmaster & Prince kickstarter. It started like a good idea, but the company came in unprepared, didn’t have enough high tiers, didn’t offer all the goodies until there was only 2-3 days left. Poorly advertised it never met the goal, but honestly the goal seemed rather…unrealistic anyway. Of couse let us not forget the wtf is going on mess with the Taisho Alice licensing that left everyone confused whether it was actually legit or not. Seems like maybe it is? Only time will tell at this point!
- Not everyone wants their games in English. Honeybee is certainly not pleased with people translating their games and making patches and they sent a cease & desist letter to one of the groups. That’s ok honeybee, your games won’t be missed anyway, you time in the spotlight ended in 2011.
- Spike Chun realizes we love Kenka bancho Otome. Spike Chun USA held a poll on their twitter asking fans to vote their favorite game that they’d like to see localized. It was a rough battle, but the otome armada came through in the end and KBO ended up winning the top spot.
- Quin Rose’s Site Dies. Well it was inevitable, but their site kinda died while I was midst playing Crimson Empire. Made it a bit annoying trying to figure out how to spell everyone’s names. (;・∀・)
- Broccoli bans Americans from viewing their youtube videos. I’m not sure what this is supposed to accomplish other than make me hate Broccoli more than I already did for their Utapri cow milking and poor quality game releases.
- Mystic Messenger is a so popular it causes people to act like entitled twats. Ok I’m being a bit harash here but it’s true. Apparently a bunch of people cheated the timer system and got their accounts banned…so they created an online petition to unban them. The nerve lol! “Yea we totally stole something we should have paid money for but it’s so unfair for you to ban us!” Also apparently being a college student is a ticket to getting things for free. Wish that applied to me while I was in college, I wouldn’t have had student loans! 😂 Honestly while MM seemed interesting, the time based system just doesn’t work for me as I only have specific times of day I can otome game. That just means I won’t play MM, I’m not gonna be entitled and rage at the maker (who ended up unbanning them btw lol) to change it for me! If MM ever goes “Buy all routes and play at your own time” system, I’ll probably pick it up. (Though honestly from some of the spoilers I’ve seen, there’s nothing new or shocking or surprising in MM that I haven’t seen in the 200+ otome games I’ve completed in the last 8 years.)
- Yumecast Takes Over! So I jumped on the idol game bandwagon because I got a new phone (which was then rudely taken away from me forcing me to use my old phone for a month which was utter suffering…) and the one that stuck to me the most was Yumeiro cast. Yumecast mostly because it had a heroine with eyeballs who had her own personality and felt like she was part of the cast….rather than how most music games are just boys having fun with each other. 😂 (Which is ok if you’re into that but I wanted something more otome!) And so I’ve probably already spent like $200 on this game and I pretty much play daily so it’s taken a huge chunk of my regular otome game time….but it also helped me distract myself when I’m feeling lousy so I do thank Yumecast for what it’s worth. I’ve reached level 60 in about 3 months so here’s to more Yumecast. Hopefully I can play long enough to make to my fav dude’s birthday in June 2017 😂.
- Other stuff. Well unrelated to otome but my health plummeted the 2nd half of August and I’m still recovering from the damage. I learned a valuable lesson to not give a fuck about everything so much because stress and anxiety can really affect your physical health. So now I’m just working on improving that and hopefully things will resolve in 2017. Unfortunately it doesn’t help that my country just elected a——well never mind not even gonna go into that on here. 😂💦 Oh and my phone became an explosive device candidate that was prohibited on an airplane, so I was forced to cut my vacation to return it while in Vegas. That really sucked lmao. Let’s move on to the otome game awards!

After Thoughts
Once again, broken record thanks to everyone who visits, comments, and reads this blog as well as my twitter babbles. The console market is kinda going downhill because everything is going to mobile. Mobile games are still not up to par with quality of console games in my opinion, but makers make what sells even if it’s utter garbage. My Vita is still alive & kicking after 2 years (unlike my PSP 😂) so as long as they continue making otome games for it, I’ll continue trucking along. This year’s Otomate party was disappointing and it’s obvious that based on low sales they’re branching out into mobile and drama CDs now. It’s sad that eventually everything will be mobile, but as long as they can keep the quality the same as console I don’t mind. I’ve yet to see this though as most mobile games, (aside from the idol music games) that I’ve encountered have been template and mediocre (see everything by Voltage.) 2016 has been a less than stellar year for a lot of things, but let’s hope for a better 2017! (●´ω`●) And now I leave you all with the yearly blog stats:
Top 5 Referrals (ignoring search engines and wordress itself):
- Tumblr
- My Anime List
- Reverse Harem Garden
So overall, social media continues to be the top hit for me aside from google search results.
Top 5 posts:
- Prince of Stride Review
- OZMAFIA!! review
- Dialovers More Blood Review 😨
- Dialovers HBD Review 😨😨
- Norn 9 Review
Why review new games when people only wanna read stuff I wrote 4 years ago about wife beating vampires 😂😂😂 Someday…I hope these things get dethroned from the top 5. That day is not today.
Top 5 Search Engine terms (excluding anything with the blog name and “otome game”):
- otouto scramble izumi
- otouto scramble
- otouto scramble walkthrough
- diabolik lovers game
- amnesia later
I like play that game
thank you! and yea I don’t know why this one was picked out of all of their games…I feel like my stupid tweeting of it helped to build up popularity for it…but I hope not 😂
Congratulations on your 8th anniversary~
Apparently alot of people like their 11 year olds~
Still can’t believe that game is greenlit for steam..
next year looks so empty I’m kinda disappointed lmao xD let’s hope for the best thank you!
Congratulations on your 8th anniversary! Glad to see that you enjoyed a fair number of otome games this year. Here’s to hoping that the next year will provide more! \o/
thank you for reading all this time 😀
Happy anniversary! I’ve been quietly enjoying your blog for a while now. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. This list was a really entertaining read as usual. Here’s to another year!
thanks for coming out of the woodwork to comment 😛
and omg wow you live in Japan haha I hope Japan is treating you well! 😀 Enjoy all the otome themed holiday stuff as well!
Congratulations!!! This is actually my first time commenting, but I’ve been following your blog for a good 5 years now!! You were the reason I decided to major in Japanese, so that I could enjoy these games with you. 5 years later, I live in Japan but still nowhere near your level 😂 Thanks for all the awesome! Enjoy the holidays!!
there was a few decent games this year, probably better than last llool
Congrats on your blog anniversary! And I hope you’re feeling much better now. ^^
I haven’t been playing that much otoge this year. ;;;; But seeing your reviews, it seems that I don’t miss that much. XD
Thank you for reading, those words mean a lot to me ☺
Keep it up love reading your blog. I appreciate all the time you put into the blog for your fans 🙂
yea the awards help remind me of what I played this year too…even a few months I start to just forget because I play so many games….I had to keep a note file all year to keep track 😂
I hope those games you backlogged get played soon since they were the few good ones I liked this year! And yea companies gotta do what sells, just a bummer that it’s really hurting the console market now 😦
This blog is like my child now, so it’s kinda hard to just give up. I’ve had times where I had no motivation and I’d feel like “who’s gonna read this anyway” but every year during these anniversary posts I’m reminded that I still have people who look forward to my ramblings 😂
It’s like some people are stuck in this Dialover limbo and they never want to leave 😂
Hope you enjoy the few decent games that came out this year!
I have no idea why otosuku got so popular….😂
Thank you, working on getting rid of this problem by January!
Congrats, Hinano! I always look forward to your Anniversary posts in December because they’re just such a fun way to sum up the year. Your awards reminded me that I still have to play a few of those games on my backlog (particularly CxM, TaishoxAlice, and Kenka Bancho). I already have them but I just never got around to playing them yet so they’re just collecting dust on my game shelf oops. Sorry to hear about your health. I hope things are better now.
Personally, I’m not really fond of the move from the console to the mobile market but I can understand why it’s going in that direction. I keep seeing more and more mobile games pop up and they seem to be doing really well so I can’t blame the companies for going with the flow of profitability. I do hope the console market doesn’t do so bad that it completely dies out though.
Thanks for keeping up this blog! It’s one of the first ones I came across a few years ago when I first started otome gaming so it’s nice to see it’s still going strong. Wishing you a good next year, both in games and in health!
Ahhh I’m late to the party because my internet was down when you posted this;; Congratulations on your 8th anniversary! Now that I think about it time really passes fast and Dialovers still most read review oh well. ((-_-))
Seems this year Otomate wasn’t that bad with their games! Not reading spoilers for the good stuff but I’ve got a good insight to what Otomate games to buy. Thank you always for your great reviews!
Congrats on 8th anniversary! I had fun reading your blog for all these years, thank you for the hard work and please take care of you health!
(Also those search terms…LOL SIGH)
I feel you there. “Been there, done that, eyes rolled.” To the point that it’s Moshikami that provokes a reaction. (Soothed by 地上最強のヒロイン。) Major props to you for carrying on through that and more all these years. I hope by the time you greet the new one your health is back up!
yea Yumecast is such a time killer but I love it anyway xD
thank you!
hello and thank you! (*´∀`)
Thank you for reading my blog this year and glad you enjoy! Hopefully CxM will be out in 2017 so I hope you and everyone else in the English speaking fandom enjoys it! I’ve gotten a few people recommending me psychedelica and while I was on the fence about it due to lack of romance…I may be running out of games next year in February or so (due to lack of actual new releases) so I might end up picking it up if it’s on sale or something.
OMG I KNOW….MAYBE…NEXT YEAR 😂😂😂
For a lot of people MM might be their first or even only 2nd otome game so to them it probably feels like the best thing ever. Aside the glasshour system, I really didn’t like the deal with yet another eyeless mobile heroine. I feel like people’s fanarts of her make her look 12000 times better than she really does lol
I think my friend’s been playing that game, but since I’m busy with yumecast I didn’t wanna pick up anymore ongoing mobile games lol. (Also not a huge fan of candy crush style games). Yea hopefully by the time mobile games are decent..I’m still around to care about playing them XD
Thank you!! I’m getting better (finally after 3.5 months omg) hopefully I’ll be fully recovered by the time the clock strikes 12 on new year’s eve. I feel you on the mobile thing – I only care about everyone going there IF the quality can stay the same. I don’t want blowup doll eyeless heroines as the new default ~_~.
You’ve been busy working on your own game though so its ok if you don’t blog..and yea it’s sad how people still are into uh..the same old crap lmao. And how do seiyuus stay young? Magical Japanese Genes obv 😂
My friend loved your blushing bread 😂
Good that you skipped on the kuso and I’m glad that I can at least sell them off to bookoff (unlike my kuso pc game collection lol). Sometimes I feel like if I quit there will be no one left….cause I mean who sits through as much crap as I do!? XD At least now there’s more localized titles so at least English bloggers can talk about them. And yea every year I keep hoping for a better 2017! That said I still think 2016 game list was probably better than the 2015 one.
haha I rarely rage about anything these days, the jading is strong hahaha
I love your posts xD
YumeCast is awesome *^* I play it too!!!
Happy 8th anniversary!!
Hello Hinano !
Congratulations on your 8th anniversary ! ヾ(≧∪≦*)ノ〃
It’s been only a year or so since I started following your blog, but I’m really glad I found out about it ! I really enjoy reading your posts and am really grateful to you for all the reviews you’ve been making till now, reading them always makes me smile, you’ve got a really enjoyable/funny writing style ! 🙂
Sjiskhdfu Takeru looks so cute on that CG… (*´﹃`*) I’ll definitely be playing CxM someday… (≧⌂≦) Really want to play the japanese version but my japanese skills aren’t so good for the moment and I’m scared that It’d be a waste to play it now. 😦
Lately I’ve been playing Kokuchou no Psychedelica and up to now (still have 2 routes left to do) the game has been pretty enjoyable to me ! It’s pretty story-centered, which I like quite a lot 🙂 I’d like to recommend it to you but I think I heard you say somewhere that it wasn’t really your type of game ?
Anyway, I hope you’re enjoying the C:R FD ! Take care of your health, I wish it gets better soon ! =D
Looking forward to your next review,
イズミ
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Diabolik Lovers seems to appear in your aniversary post every year LOL.
MM is an OK game, but the way many people around me act like it’s the only good otome game really pisses me off.
I’ve played Stand My Heroes recently. It’s a nice otome game on mobile with interesting character, funny story and candy-crush-style: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.colyinc.standMyHeroes&hl=ja
So I think maybe in the future, there will be many more good game on mobile, just not right now.
Happy 8th anniversary!! I hope you’re getting well even better in the holiday season! Get some rest and take care (^O^☆♪
I hope the market won’t switch entirely to mobile, unless they make the games more enjoyable and more qualitative. Hoping some more fun games like Bancho come out! www Still have to scratch up money to eventually buy it orz
Haha. I haven’t been blogging anymore, but boy all those rated games and CDs are still a hit on my blog. Lololol Crazy how people still search for that old stuff! So I can understand your ??? Reaction 😂
PS: The seiyuu are still hot af! I wonder how they can stay so young and handsome gdi
also glad to see my seducing bread boy heheh ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I’ve only played like a few of these games but I can totally agree with CxM and Kenka Bancho Otome winning best games for this year cause they were really great. I avoided a lot of that kusoge though LOLOL. Glad I didn’t toss my money in the toilet.
Anyway, congrats on your 8th year anniversary! I got into playing otome games like 3 or 4 years ago and didn’t start blogging until like 2 years ago so I can’t say I’ve been all that active when it comes to playing them until more recently but the fact you’ve been playing them for this long AND reviewing them is really a huge accomplishment. It’s good to see you’re still doing them, and even though I didn’t follow your blog for as long as some others have, I’m glad to be able to read your posts. They’re pretty hilarious and keep me entertained for all the kusoge you play. So keep it up and hopes to a new and better otoge year in 2017!!
Congrats on 8 years! I dunno when I started following. 3-4 years ago, I guess? My favorite parts are when you rage or moe with appropriate kaomoji hahaha
FAKE GAMER GIRL AWARDwwwwwww
Hmm it makes sense and I have enjoyed a few mobile games myself, but I prefer otoge that have a thought out story and characters that aren’t carbon copies of copy pasta tropes 😛
And yea….ROFL
thanks for reading and glad my reviews entertain! yea I hate the region locks but at least there’s QooApp to get around them. (still annoyed I couldn’t get that torowareta paruma ?? or whatever app because for some reason qoo didn’t add it – not sure if it’s been added recently)
My friend who completed Zen’s route told me I’m not missing out on much either so I’m glad to uh get another opinion. I’m okay with people loving the game, that’s fine, just hard to explain how I just really prefer to buy an entire route rather than constantly have to recharge hourglasses (and god forbid I get the wrong end and have to start over to waste even more hourglasses!) I’m pretty sure Cheritz prolly made this system because people probably pirated their “buy all at once” PC games and this allows them more control over the said piracy.
you’re one of my long time readers! A lot of people who kinda started around the time I did sort of dropped off the radar now. and I can understand real life can get in the way – I guess it helped that when I started the hobby I was already kinda “settled down” with mine.
and yea it’s totally cool to not agree with my rambles, as long as you find them somewhat entertaining is pretty much my goal of the blog anyway!
and yea it sucks about mobile, even when I’d find a decent mobile game with seiyuus – bam the system is crap. I’ve yet to find a mobile game that can match the quality of a console one – including a non buggy system. It’s sad. Probably doesn’t help that new system versions of android are released every 6 months which probably creates new bugs and hassle for the makers. And yea not a fan of freemium plus either especially since I like to go back into routes to find other endings, cgs or rewatch scenes etc.
and thank you for the well wishes ♡
glad you made the switch to otome games, lots to look fwd for you in 2017 XD
From a friend who likes Voltage games I was told that it’s the convenience of being able to play quietly at home/work/commute that appeals to them. Rather than sitting and playing a long game on their console or PC they prefer a short mobile game even if it’s completely template & vapid lol.
I don’t think horny wife beaters is going away anytime soon seeing how 50 shades made a ton of money and a sequel is in theaters now… 😂
I actually avoid any mobile games with tickets so any mobile game I review will usually be a “pay a 1 time fee” if that helps any! Thanks for reading!
Enjoy MM and thank you for reading!
Yea it’s all good that people don’t agree, as long as they can find something entertaining to take out of my posts 😀
Congratulations!!!!🍾🎉🎊🎈I love reading your blog; your posts are so funny 😂 your reviews always brighten my day! Hopefully 2017 will bring better games…
I don’t mind the move to mobile, but hopefully as you said the quality will be good and stuff isn’t region locked! Also, the option to buy full routes!!!!
Yeah MM is a bit overrated (plz don’t kill me) and you aren’t missing too much.
🙏🏻Please let us get more games and localizations next year! ❤️️
🎊 CONGRATULATIONS!!! 🎊
I can’t believe it’s been 8 years! As for me, it’s been around 6 years since I first started reading your blog. Can’t believe time flew by so fast… I don’t always agree with your opinions, but that’s also one of the best things about reading others’ reviews! I also love these award posts a lot so that’s always something to look forward to as well. =)
I’m not too pleased about the mobile market taking chunks out of the console one, but I’ll be happy to make the move once the quality of the mobile games start to come closer to that of [good] console games (like you said). I really don’t like freemium plus I can’t justify parting with that kind of money for games of Voltage-like standards- IMO, not worth it.
Whatever the future holds, keep up the great work and I hope there will be more otome games you’ll enjoy! Also, please take care of yourself and I hope your health will improve. 💐
Congratulations on your 8th anniversary! I’ve been a lurker on your blog for more than a year and you’re the reason why I decided to play otome games!
Congratulations on your 8th Anniversary, Hinano!!! It’s been such a fun ride getting to know you and the other otoge bloggers and while I agree that the consoles are losing to mobiles (still honestly wondering WHY because no seiyuu, crappy story, copy pasta and more rofl) I shall stand by the vita. I sincerely hope the next year proves itself to be better than this year lol and hopefully horny angsty-preteens will realize wife-beating vampires really aren’t sexy after all.
It sucks that they’re moving to mobile, since I have a thing against paying for most mobile games (maybe if it was it was a 1 time price vs time tickets and stuff I’d be more willing)
And congrats on the 8 years! You’re my go to site for pretty much any otome game, and your writing style is always fun to read!
I really like your blog, and I recently started playing MM. I’m pretty excited for the game and congrats on 8 years!!
Congratulations on 8th anniversary! Even though sometimes i disagree with your thoughts i still like your blog a lot and i get really excited when i see new reviews pop up! I hope you will have pleasure to play better games next year! And mystic messenger can be played without waiting, it just costs hour glasses (that you can buy), but it is worth it, it is really fun, i recommend it~
