Although it was painfully inevitable it looks like Nier Reincarnation will finally shut down after 3 years. I feel like this blog has become some kind of collection of “Games I’ve played that shut down” but since I didn’t blog much about Nier Reincarnation I guess it’s a little different from the rest. |
Everyone is blaming the Persona 5 collab curse but honestly everyone should really be looking at Square Enix’s mobile game history. That alone should just get you the flag that their mobile game division is not only an epic failure but you should definitely not be spending money on their games that fail within such short periods of time. I mean playing FF7 Ever Crisis was painfully obvious after only 2 days and I’m glad I quit that shit. Even the steam reviews are bombing it lol.
Still despite this, I pretty much logged in almost every single day to Nier Reincarnation since its launch and I continued playing on the Japanese server. I spent maybe $60 once on the FFXIV collab gacha so it’s not like I lost a whole ton of money compared to the whales who are probably crying tears of blood now. Still I enjoyed the main story and some of the side stories and only in the last 2 story updates did we finally make the connection to the Nier series. I feel like it’s an important part of Nier lore and it’s really sad to see it go offline. I hope they consider turning it into an offline game or a DLC on top of Nier Automata.
⚠️𝙉𝙞𝙚𝙧 𝙍𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙨 (𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙠 𝙩𝙤 𝙎𝙚𝙚)⚠️
So basically the entire “cage” of Nier Reincarnation is just a server on the moon that contains human memories so all of the stories we see in the game are all just memories left over of humanity. This server is guarded by an android named 10H and her pod 006 – which we know in the game as “Mama”. But then the server gets hacked or something and we get a Drakengard style monster that all the characters in Reincarnation defeat which allows for 10H to re-awaken and get back into the server. She wants to make sure to destroy whatever got in there so she can preserve all their data/memories. They also go into detail about Project Gestalt as well as White Chlorination Syndrome. It also feels like it takes place AFTER Nier Automata so in a way, it’s kind of a sequel? This would make all the Nier Collaboration events technically be “canon” as they are events that happened previous to this. They even had the virus filled Yorha androids on the bunker as well as the memory of 2B longing for 9S from her sword. In the end it’s up to Yuzuki and Hina to beat the virus out of her lol. In the end 10H ends up sacrificing herself to save all of the data memories. I did the character story and the dark story which also revealed that 10H and the Mama-pod were good friends but then 10H found out that every time she found out about the secret of the human race being extinct, Mama-pod would kill her and wipe her memories and reset her into a new body etc. Very tragic but again gives a good spin on what was really going on the Moon server.
For those who never got a chance to play it, there’s a hero on Youtube who’s been recording many of the stories and side content/events on their channel. I highly suggest at least watching the main story for all the Nier lore and if you like the characters to check out some of the recollections of dusk stories. My big favorites were Levania and Fio and Sarafa and Yudil. My least favorite were Argo because he’s a deadbeat dad and Akeha because I just couldn’t really get into the whole sister assassin thing. It’s also really nice that they’re finishing up the main story before the game goes offline with the final chapter being released at the end of March so don’t go uninstalling your apps just yet.
Until the end of service, they’re holding a bunch of daily login bonuses, free gachas and adding a couple side quests. The only thing I wish they would do is increase the damn gacha rates. I mean paid currency is now offline, so for god’s sake just let us have everything. Why continue the shitty abysmal rates? Because of that it’s really hard for me to do Levania’s recollection of dusk and that was the story I always wanted to see aside watching the youtube channel edition.
Anyway, I guess it’s good I picked up Love and Deep Space when I did since now that will be my only mobile game. I’ll continue playing Reincarnation until the end and take lots of screenshots of my favorite outfits before I go. Maybe I’ll stream the final chapter when it releases in March on my Twitch channel as well. For now though, thanks for the 3 years Reincarnation, it was a pleasure. 🫡
And on that note, I will never touch a Square Enix mobile game ever again. 😒
