I’ve been eyeing this game ever since it was announced. I never played any previous Nikki games but if you’re a long LOOONNNG time reader of this blog you may remember I used to play a similar game called Poupee Girl until it’s inevitable demise.

So as a disclaimer, I want to preface that this IS a gacha game. It has mechanics that let you get outfits that are SLIGHTLY better than what you would earn by doing in game quests. At the moment it’s not too obvious but I can definitely see this becoming more pay to win as time goes on. It happened with Love & Deepspace so since it’s the same publisher, it’s inevitable that it will happen here. So with that in mind, I am still in the honeymoon phase and enjoying the story and all the sidequests. Once I hit a p2w roadblock I will most likely quit. Also by playing during launch there’s tons of free rewards, gacha tickets, login bonuses etc. It’s definitely worth playing and jumping in now while the game is flooding users with free stuff to keep them playing.

At the moment the story is you magically get sucked into Miraland with your trusty cat companion Momo. While there you purify evil spirits, make outfits out of fish and random animal fur and then have a fashion showdown with various NPCs. There’s also various mini games that involve flying, jumping, gliding, riding bikes, kicking soccer balls and even doing Super Mario Bros. 🤣
So there’s definitely a lot to do. One of my favorite things to do, and as is very appropriate for this kind of game…is taking photos! The photo mode is very extensive and you can get some really beautiful shots in the wild. The best part is you can then upload those shots to “the server” and when others are adventuring, they can see your photo in the wild, and even take a photo with “your character” as they were in that pose. To me this is one of the most fun things. I’ve actually added a few people to my friends list who either took photos with me or I liked their shots and took photos with them.

The downside is similarly to LADS, the servers are split between US, Asia and Europe so I can’t actually add my friends who are in EU and Asia 😭 If you are on the America server and would like to add me, the system is a bit convoluted but here’s some friend codes (though they expire in a couple days!)

If they don’t work or you still would like to add me, please hit me up at my bluesky account. I have been streaming the game pretty frequently over at my Twitch channel so you can also stop by and drop your friend code there for me to add as well :).

Overall I am enjoying the game for now. Some mini games are annoying af but instead of getting frustrated I just ignore them for now. Every NPC in the game looks like some tired old man/woman except this one guy named Giovani who looks like he was yeeted right out of Love & Deepspace.

I wasn’t a fan of the English dub so I usually play with Japanese voices. A Japanese wiki has some other guesses of who the seiyuus may be but it’s possible they may never be announced due to some kind of harassment issues by fans (or so I heard.)

Anyway I’ll do another write up on how I feel about the game sometime next spring to see how it’s going. LaDS has fallen into unfortunate predatory p2w gacha status so I’ve stopped spending money on it. I only roll on gachas that benefit my stats boost for SHC and only with gems I’ve accumulated. I’m predicting Nikki will fall into the same category but it’s ok as long as I can still enjoy the game by then. FFXIV is kind of in a dead period for me (lots of content that isn’t my cup of tea) so it’s nice to have something else to fall back on. I’m still recovering from my surgery but I’m on the mend and I can still play the game on PC though I am considering downloading the PS5 version so I can play while in bed. The tablet version is ok but tablet batteries are limited and jumping, combat and moving on tablet (like in LADS) is just really awful.
