Otome Game News 11/2012

I feel sick while writing this post so if I make typos bear with me \(^o^)/

Rather than focusing on B’s Log & DGS news only I figured it’s just easier to post news around the web in the past month. So starting with the graphic above, in case you thought Otomate was done milking Hiiro, they’re porting it to Iphone & Android. The price is cheap but actually the PSP port is almost the same price so without any new content I don’t think its worth it (unless you just don’t own a PSP?)

Year of the Fandisks: A look at 2012 Otome Game releases

I don’t usually do a “preview” post of games but hey it’s the beginning of the year and I figured this post could serve a reference/reminder of stuff to look forward to this year. All info taken from B’s Log release calendar. So anyway let’s get started:

January 2012:

  • TOKYO ヤマノテ BOYS SWEET JELLY BEANS – TYB harem fandisk! But that’s not all! Apparently they will be releasing corresponding FDs in the summer to compliment this. Don’t expect too much except a bunch of 3P ends here.
  • 官能昔話 ポータブル – Ever wish you were the heroine of a fairy tale? Well now you can be, you can be like 5 heroines at the same time.
  • 恋愛番長2 MidnightLesson!!! – Fuck yea RenaiBancho 2, now you can get with all the fake banchos who surprised you in first game.

Anime Expo Otome Game Localizations

So I’m sure everyone’s heard it by now but for anyone who’s been under a rock:

So yea Hakuoki & Starry Sky have been picked up by USA publishers. My thoughts? Well I’m jealous that I can’t be working on these projects with them and getting paid for it! (not that it would ever happen seeing how I’m on the opposite end of the coast il||li_| ̄|○il||liガーン。 ) I’m not really that excited as I don’t think Starry Sky or Hakuoki franchises are ALL THAT GREAT. There’s a lot of better games (Cough TAKUYO cough) but for a foot into the otome market I think they made the right choice. Let’s face it, I still get a shit ton of hits daily on my starry sky in spring post and I get hits for Hakuoki in RUSSIAN. So needless to say, I think both games have a pretty big following despite what anyone may think and it will help earn revenue for both companies so that perhaps one day they can pick up better games for the English market.

Bright Shadow is back from the dead to haunt you one last time.

So without me knowing (or caring) apparently Bright Shadow Japan FINALLY closed its doors in February!

They even had some campaign to give items to people starting new accounts on Gamania’s other games (Divinia & Lucent Heart.) Well not surprising as this game was outdated & crappy and last time I played on the JP servers there was practically nobody on. In the darkness of this closing, Beanfun, which recently picked up Lucent Heart decided to also pick up Bright Shadow which Failpot USA dropped. Supposedly the English Bright Shadow will reopen on July 8th (so very soon actually!) but you have to think about this: The Japanese version of BS is gone, Korean’s been gone for a while…don’t know if the Taiwan one is still running but basically you got a dead game reopening. What does this mean? It means there will probably be no new levels or content updates EXCEPT for the multiple gacha items that Japan had spewed for like 2 years until they finally shut down. Maybe while they’re at it, Beanfun will also revive Fantasy Earth Zero who knows ┐(‘~`;)┌

So unless you just wanna mess around with BS for old times sake, I wouldn’t recommend the English version. You’re essentially playing a zombie game at this point. I’d recommend playing Beanfun’s Lucent Heart (although I hear there’s a BR invasion recently  ) Neither of those 2 games appeal to me so I’m just waiting on my closed beta pass for Ragnarok Online 2 Lime Odyssey! ( Actually seeing that the same team who dragged on RO2 the Gate of World is now dragging their asses on Lime Odyssey…I don’t have much hope for this either tbh.. ( ´_ゝ`)).

In other news if you’ve been under a rock Prius Online English has been open for a while but I’ve decided to pass up on it since essentially the only cute thing are the lolis and the playable characters are kinda fugly or furry lol. Also they banned like almost every country ever which is good for the certain spammer countries but bad because now some of my worldwide friends can’t play with me.

Update: And so 1 year later Beanfun shuts down bright shadow on August 30, 2012. Let’s hope it stays dead for good this time lol.

Pangya Europe just can’t get a break!

So looks like Galaxy Games is closing shop on Pangya Europe as of 12/31. This means that Pangya Global (?) now is opening its doors to European players to migrate themselves back here. They’re even offering compensation for European players in good standing or to those who have spent money with GG. Although since Pangya was their only game, I have a feeling SGI just…ate them up like they did with Ntreev USA  Read the rest of this entry

Ntreev devoured by SG Interactive

So Ntreev is no more! It’s been picked up by SG Interactive. I thought this was some Singapore company but after checking some stuff it looks like it’s the korean company Smilegate (which makes more sense.) SG Interactive might be the US branch. So far the only thing this company has going for them is some Chinese FPS game called Cross-Fire. Perhaps this will be similar to how Galaxy Games took over Pangya when GOA fell apart.

Korean SG building

I guess ultimately my question is – will this be a good or bad move for Pangya? I couldn’t care less about Trickster or Grand-Chase but could it possibly be that maybe they will finally listen to the users? That they will improve Gacha rates and papel shop rates? That they will allow us to trade gacha items like GG did? That they will bring us more events and get us up to date with Japan? (SG’s site has English, Japanese and Chinese language links but they are inactive atm.)  Or will this create an even bigger wall between the player base and the management? Also since GOA and Ntreev are both out of the picture, will they maybe lift the Euro-ban?

I guess only time will tell… :|

Party Castle Service Closed.

Uh I just happened to stumble upon this article but turns out Party Castle has closed its doors as of 8/31/2010. Wow that’s sad, it’s not even a year that the service has been open! I guess it’s just dumb luck all these games I quit eventually ended their service. I guess I must have a knack for knowing when something is epic fail

Apparently you can still download the client and play around with stuff offline though.

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse here but…

I’ve recently been getting a lot of blog hits for “prius online english” so to see why the sudden spurt I googled it myself. Turns out Prius Online will actually be coming in English in 2011. It’s no longer licensed by NetMarble USA (which is more fail than Gamepot USA) but it’s now been picked up by gPotato instead. I guess we’ll see it hopefully sometime in January of next year. Until then you pedobears will just have to stay in hibernation

I might try out the English version. Loli crap aside the background graphics were amazing.

P.S. Apparently G-potato hosting this game isn’t such a good thing after all?

RO2 Is back with a vengence!

So basically when we had all assumed that RO2 was dead (or as the wiki said – in development hell), Gravity decided to completely scrap the project and start over. The new game will be called “Legend of the Second” instead of “Gate of World” and it will be what RO2 was supposed to be in the first place: a 3D version of RO1.

The characters will no longer be chibi cute but I guess more mature-ish looking? I don’t know how I feel about that. I actually quite liked the style of the cast of the original RO2 (see my screenshot album) so I guess I’d have to see the 3D version before making a decision! Hopefully some trailers and stuff will popup after the closet beta commences on August 31st.

Rather than remaking all the characters and monsters (except what…porings?) RO2 will now just 3D-efy everything! Awesome, count me in – well whenever a Japanese or English version comes out. I’m going to be passing on the Korean beta (even though they claimed you could use your old RO2 beta account) since I can’t read a word of hangul anyway.

Taratros Guild Event & Other news

The other night I was thinking “man I wish we’d have some kind of guild badge event or something..” Well I think MK-Style read my mind:

The event is to encourage people to join a guild but since we already have a guild we’re already halfway there xD. Read the rest of this entry

Prius Online just lost its chances of coming to America lol

Yea I know the English version is somewhere in limbo but because of this who knows if they’ll even pursue it anymore. I mean come on, playing games is fine but if you have a baby, why don’t they just play…at home? What a concept! Also how the hell do they spend 12 hours a day on a netcafe playing these games? When do they work/sleep? If they don’t work/sleep how do they even afford to go to PCBang? If their baby was 3 months old, it was clearly becuase they had like celebratory sex after beating some boss in the game and then were like “oops damn we have a baby now, maybe if we starve it it’ll go away, let’s go back to raising our Animas!!”

Also Prius is NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING like 2nd life. It doesn’t have giant penises floating around and your avatars don’t randomly go having sex with each other in private rooms. Whoever quoted that is a freaking idiot
